Nearly 300 corporate marketers, digital strategists, social media practitioners and technologists gathered at the Fort Mason Center in blustery San Francisco today for the Pulse Network’s Inbound Marketing Summit.
Pitched as an exchange of real world applications and best practices of content marketing, big data, mobile technologies and marketing automation, the organizers at Pulse Network did an admirable job to fill the agenda with an eclectic mix of speakers.
Strategic Communications Group is one of the event’s sponsors and I have been tapped to give a presentation during the second day of the conference about the integration of content and social media to drive measurable sales outcomes.
I’ll publish a full write-up and assessment of the event in the coming days, yet wanted to share a few choice quotes and photos from day one.
“The idea of measuring ‘more’ is over. It’s not about more likes, more fans and more followers. Marketers need to deliver profitable, data-driven results.”
“Content can serve as a centralizing force within an organization. Marketers have begun to construct centers of excellence to drive the content creation process.”

“Inbound marketing is about story telling and emotional hooks…Good writing is paramount and the foundation of exceptional content.”
“Small companies often have more authenticity (than global brands) because their content may be more raw and unfiltered.”
Mary Jo Horton
“The sales process can never be fully automated. It is relationship based.”
“The connection between marketing and sales doesn’t exist at most companies. There is too much ego involved.”
